About Thai Law Online
Thai Law Online is an independent educational publisher. We write plain-English explainers about how Thai law works, aimed at foreigners living in or dealing with Thailand and at Thais who want an accessible overview in English.
What this site is — and is not
- We are not a law firm, we do not take clients, and nothing here is legal advice.
- Guides describe the general shape of Thai law. Details — fees, thresholds, deadlines — change, and individual cases turn on their facts.
- Where we state figures (interest caps, quotas, time limits) they reflect well-established rules, but you should always verify the current position before relying on them.
Sources we rely on
- The Civil and Commercial Code, Criminal Code, Land Code and related acts.
- Official bodies: the Courts of Justice, the Council of State (consolidated statutes), the Lawyers Council of Thailand, the Department of Business Development, and Thai Immigration.
- Where a topic is fast-moving (cannabis regulation, visa programmes, minimum wage and other periodically-revised figures), we say so and point you to the current official source rather than quoting a number that may already be stale.
Editorial standards
Every guide on this site is written to be accurate about the general shape of Thai law rather than to sound authoritative about specifics we cannot verify for your particular case. We do not fabricate statistics, court outcomes or citations, and we do not invent named law firms, lawyers, addresses or phone numbers anywhere on this site — where a rule involves a number that changes over time, we describe the structure of the rule and flag that the current figure should be confirmed with a licensed Thai lawyer or the relevant government office.
How this content is produced
Guides are researched from the primary sources listed above and are periodically reviewed as Thai law and practice change. We would rather under-state a figure’s precision and point you to the official source than state a number confidently and be wrong — that trade-off shapes every guide on this site, and it is why you will see “check the current figure” more often than a specific number.
How to use these guides
Start with the guide closest to your actual problem — most pages link sideways to the two or three other guides people in a similar situation usually need next. If your matter is genuinely contested, urgent, or involves real money or liberty, treat this site as the background reading that makes your first meeting with a lawyer more useful, not as a substitute for that meeting.
The wider network
Alongside this hub, our companion site Anglo Siam Law publishes in-depth guides across every area of Thai law, and we publish local guides for the lower-northeast provinces, covering local courts and where to find help on the ground:
